About
Mattie Dougherty
LGPC, NCC
Hello, my name is Mattie Dougherty, and I am a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC). I graduated from Walden University with a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling in August 2022. I also hold a Master’s in Education degree from Walden and am a member of the American Counseling Association.

I come to Peace of Mind Therapeutic Services and Solutions, LLC, with a background of working with adolescents who have social/emotional and behavioral disorders in both residential and school settings. I have experience helping students and residents learn skills to cope and manage their emotions through modalities such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Therapy, and Mindfulness. I have also assisted with equine therapy to help clients and students to build confidence and emotional awareness, increase social skills, reduce impulse control, learn problem-solving skills, and build trust and empathy. I have experience working with adolescents and adults who have experienced trauma, depression, anxiety, behavior disorders, PTSD, and Autism.

In addition to serving clients at POM, I work full-time as a Special Educator. Prior to my current position, I held the position of Transition Coordinator at a private special education school and residential treatment center where I worked with adolescents and teens aged 12-21 diagnosed with Social/Emotional and Behavioral disorders.

My goal as a therapist is to help clients fully live their lives by building self-confidence, learning to regulate emotions, reducing stress, and increasing problem-solving skills in a non-judgmental environment where they can feel free to be themselves.

I enjoy spending my free time taking photographs, hiking, kayaking, traveling, reading, going to the beach, and experiencing new adventures!
